Heading to MTSU: the track season so far
With the coming of the new semester, not only do we have to adjust to our new spring schedules, but we have to adapt to training for track races instead of strictly the one distance in cross country. Always my favorite season (although this is my first experience with indoor track), track allows everyone to specialize in a running distance (or field event) that best fits them. Consequently,...

There's no place like home
It is hard to believe I am already a junior and halfway through conference play. We have had some great times together this season already. One of the highlights so far has been the basketball trip to Georgia. We stayed in an amazing Hilton hotel one night and got spoiled. We always have fun in the hotels. Our team has gotten along extremely well, so hanging out with each other has been fun. Of...

Thinking back to Niswonger
Hey there, hope everything is going well on your side of the computer screen. It is always extremely nice to run at the Niswonger Invitational because the meet is almost like a home meet. Being so close to campus allowed the team to support and cheer on everyone else throughout their races. This meet is also extremely helpful because it gives the team race experience on the track that Nationals is...

The Buffalo Nation was in full force this past weekend at Montreat College for the AAC Conference Championships. With all the accolades we received it’s hard to call our performance anything else but a success. We were treated to the local Asheville hot-spot of Mellow Mushroom the night before for dinner. There is nothing like a lot of pizza, water and a great time with the entire team the night...

This past weekend, Milligan ran at Montreat College in North Carolina at the Appalachian Athletic Conference.  We traveled to the Montreat campus to look at course on Friday, but found out that we actually needed to be on Black Mountain campus.  Coach asked five different people where the athletic fields were and no one knew what he was talking about!  Luckily a security guard rescued us and...

This past weekend the Cross Country team had the special chance to experience the life of an elite runner by going to ZAP Fitness. Nestled in the beautiful mountains of North Carolina, ZAP Fitness is a training center for post-collegiate and even Olympic hopeful runners. Acceptance to the center is dependent on running times and an interview—the remote lifestyle requires extreme dedication and is...

The annual Black and Orange Dual Meet was held on Monday October 26, 2009.  At this 3k race, Coach Layne divided us into two teams, one black and one orange, and we raced each other.  It was held down on the loop in perfect running weather and we had a lot of great support from family, friends, and professors there!  Shanna Raines, Lili Zaldana, Heather Exline, Elsa Figueroa, and Danielle...

We have had a couple great weeks here on campus; I hope you can say the same. The Black vs. Orange dual meet was a great change of pace for all of the men. After racing so many 8k’s we were ecstatic about the idea of only having to run a 5k. For guys like me, this 5k would be the only chance of the year to run an official 5k all year. The race was initially supposed to be run on Tuesday, but due...

WOW…what a week…after coming off an exciting win against Reinhardt to keep our conference title run alive, we traveled to a beautiful scenic place called Bluefield, Va., for our second to last conference match up. This is not an easy place to go too and get a easy result. After a few mix ups in our defensive third, we found ourselves down 2-0 after 20 minutes and a massive hole to try...

Wow, this weekend was amazing! We had an important game against Tennessee Wesleyan for a chance to move up in the conference rankings, and if we won, that would move us one step closer towards second place. Well with hard work and determination, we beat our opponents 1-0 in overtime. From the kickoff, I knew we were going to win. Everyone seemed to be on the same page, and all the girls were...

This past week has absolutely flown by for us. After getting back from Disney, it was time to refocus and get back to work. We met as a team to get together and talk about the rest of the season, and what its going to take for us to accomplish what we know we are capable of. That night we headed out to the Liberty Bell Track to hammer out a great workout! It gave the team a renewed sense of...

This is my favorite part of the cross country season. While last week I could barely get out of bed due to soreness from hard workouts, it seems we have finally started to usher in easier practices in preparation for Conference, and hopefully Nationals. This week in cross country, we have been able to enjoy more relaxed, but still rewarding workouts.  Tuesday night’s workout at the track at...

Our cross-country team took a trip to Disney to compete at the Disney Cross- Country Classic at Disney’s Wide World of Sports Complex.  What a great trip it was!  We took a charter bus down to Florida and had a fantastic bus driver, Ray.  He was very funny and encouraging and made the long bus ride down there a lot more enjoyable!  We arrived at Florida the day before the race and took a look at...

This week was a great one for us!  We had three conference matches that in order to move up in rankings we needed to win. Despite the fact that we were out some players due to illness and injury, we were able to overcome adversity and win all three matches 3-0. They were great wins for us and confidence boosters for the team. Each one of these games were so much fun for us to play and very...

After a frustrating week with the weather and our game against Lincoln Memorial University being cancelled, we were ready to get back to business this weekend with a massive game against Reinhardt. Last week’s weather made our field unplayable, so going into the weekend we were all hesitant and nervous as to where we would play our game because we love having our fans there to cheer us on and give...

The past two weeks have been crazy! First off, we had a great win over fall break. Sam Barton scored in double overtime with 0.5 seconds left on the clock!!  Just picture Coach Buckley running on the field, screaming, and starting a dog pile! It was amazing. Next, we beat King the following game 1-0. This was a great accomplishment because the program has not beaten our local rival in 5 years!! ...

An ongoing battle with east Tennessee’s weather has proved to be a frustrating point in this past week’s schedule for us soccer boys. After coming off a disappointing loss to the University of Cumberlands last Saturday, we were very eager to get back to work on the practice field and into our winning ways.  We have had a tough practice schedule since there have not been any games this...

Men's Cross Country Trip to Disney--Aaron Wood
Disney, wow, what a trip! Everyone who got to go really enjoyed getting that second fall break (we left on Thursday morning for a four day weekend). We were all pleasantly surprised to see a charter bus ready to take us to Florida. Better yet, we had the most entertaining bus driver, Ray. We loaded the bus and were on our way down to Disney World! After watching a couple movies and catching up on...

Coming off of Fall Break we had a very busy schedule. This past week we played Tuesday night at King College, Thursday night at home against Virginia Intermont, and then we had a tournament at Asbury College in Kentucky on Friday and Saturday. King is a big rival for us!  We played a tough four games against them, but a few errors in the fourth game led to our loss. By Thursday, we had three...
